When To Apply to CERT

We offer training twice each year: once during the fall semester and once during the spring semester. Each recruit class is typically comprised of 30 students. Information will be posted on our website and around campus regarding deadlines and informational meetings where you can learn more about CERT's mission, training programs and the various community outreach programs we are working on.

Once a student submits his or her application, the Executive Board reads each each application and then interviews each applicant. The committee then notifies each applicant shortly after whether or not they have been accepted to the Canes Emergency Response Team.

Applicant must:

Be a freshman, sophomore, or junior
Be a full-time student at the University of Miami.
Be a student in good standing
Be willing to stage/remain on campus if the team is activated by the University, for up to a 72 hour period of time

Responsibilities:

Attend all mandatory training sessions and drills throughout the year. Accomplish a minimum number of points each semester by attending special events and participating in CERT’s Outreach projects.
If activated, members must be prepared to stage on campus for up to 72 hours. The team will ideally be given a 24-48 hour period of time to prepare themselves, their families, and their residence prior to moving to the central staging location on campus.
CERT Members must be prepared at all times to be activated.
